The use of Ozone with livestock

In this article you’ll learn more about how ozone is effective in livestock care. As a powerful disinfectant and with great properties for sanitation and for odor removal, ozone comes as an ideal solution for an industry that holds the pressure of the need to become more conscious about the environment.

So how can ozone work in livestock care? Keep reading and you’ll find your answer!

Increasingly, companies are pursuing economically, environmentally and socially sustainable development for its business, and in the context of industries, it is very important.

A reduction in environmental impact is usually required, as well as an increase in worker safety and product quality. Also, in the animal’s farms, sustainable development has less impact on the environment, animals and, consequently, in the production.

In any livestock, there are a several problems such as: development of germs, emanations of ammonia gases, entry of unwanted microbes, bacteria, virus, bad smells, which can be prevented in long term with ozone application.

This problem usually causes unhealthy animals, slowing of their growth, lack of appetite, less milk production, epidemics due to contagion, diarrhea and brucellosis. But how does Ozone fit in livestock care?

Ozone and Livestock

Ozone has proved to be a great opportunity for the environment and for health: it is considered an excellent ecological disinfectant because it has no negative impact on the environment. It is a natural molecule and effectively reduces the use of chemicals, does not create harmful by-products and it is economic.

The main properties of ozone are due to its oxidizing power. It is a truly disinfectant, considered anti-microbial agent and one of the most powerful natural germicidal and purifier substances, while it destroys microorganisms, bacteria, protozoa, virus and fungi.

Everyone knows that the animals provoke bad odors, due to their perspiration and excrement. With ozone application, all the areas can be totally disinfected. It can also be applied in the livestock water usage.

When it comes to livestock water consumption, ozone dissolved in cold water improves animal growth and their reproduction, while lowering the number of illnesses, infections and deaths. In this way, the quality of meat will improve because of a greater defense against epidemics, as swine fever.

Stables, utensils and containers used and the animals themselves will be disinfected. This powerful agent neutralizes all the polluting agents.

Also, the ozonization of the environment is possible, getting a pure air. This improved air quality reduces or eliminates the pathogens and bacteria and keeps the livestock healthier.

The ozone application in the air, must be always controlled and following the standard rules – when the stables are empty, it is possible to make the environment completely sterile and disinfected, free from any kind of outbreak or accumulation of bacteria or virus.

Therefore, ozone allows a regeneration of the air, increasing oxygenation, the elimination of bacteria, and virus and a decrease in unpleasant odors.

Furthermore, the ozone benefits are also in the economic sector, leading to a reduction in heating and ventilation costs, chemicals and cost of medication, because both water and air improve the health conditions of animals and lowering the number of diseases, which are common among livestock.

… the excellent performance of ozone-based treatments can be inferred, which even slightly reduced livestock mortality (about 2%) and allowed greatly reducing the amount of antibiotics and pharmaceutical disinfectants used (by 95%, while currently the figure is not changing anymore, having reached an optimal balance).
